UNESCO medal awarded to the MCFA
"... the UNESCO's Niels Bohr Medal, which the Director General of UNESCO, Mr. Federico Mayor, wished to give to the Marie Curie Fellowship Association at the occasion of the World Conference on Science (Budapest 26 June - 1 July 1999), for the work of the Association in international co-operation."
Niels Bohr, a physicist, was the founder of quantum theory. He is best known for his investigations of atomic structure and radiation, for which he won the 1922 Nobel Prize for physics. In 1913 he published three papers of fundamental importance on the theory of the atom that influenced Einstein and other scientists.
