Application procedure for becoming a MCFA member

Please fill in the form below to register with the Marie Curie Fellowship Association. Please make sure that you fill all the areas marked as "required", otherwise your registration cannot be successfully processed. To complete your registration you will need to submit proof that you are eligible to join the association, i.e. that you belong (or belonged) to one of the following groups:

  • individual Marie Curie fellows (EIF, IIF, OIF) from the 6th and 7th Framework Programmes (FP6 and FP7);
  • Marie Curie Host fellows (EST, RTN, ITN, TOK, EXT and IAPP) from FP6 and FP7;
  • recipients of Marie Curie reintegration grants (IRG and ERG);
  • Marie Curie fellows from FP 5 (Improving Human Potential - IHP) and FP 4 (Training and Mobility of Researchers - TMR);
  • individual fellows from the Human Capital and Mobility programme of FP3;
  • individual fellows within one of the programmes for Research, Training and Mobility of FP 2 or FP 1;
  • fellows within a Research Training Network from one of the framework programmes up to and including FP 5 whose fellowship had a duration of at least one year;

You can either

  • send a copy of the page(s) of your contract/fellowship agreement/award letter stating
    • your name,
    • the contract number (in the case of host fellowships, the number of the contract between the host institution and the European Commission),
    • if the contract number is not (yet) available, the proposal number, and
    • the dates of the fellowship
    to our office by fax to +44-705-344-9896 or in scanned form to [email protected].

or

  • ask your scientific supervisor to confirm your eligibility via email (the email should mention your name, the contract number and the dates of your fellowship).

After having been successfully registered using the form below, you will be an "MCFA affiliate", with a login on the MCFA website but not the full access granted to MCFA members. Then you will be able to become an MCFA member and get full access to all member benefits (e.g. disccounts in courses offered by MCFA, etc.) by paying the membership fees. Details for membership fees payment are given on this page (reminder: you need to register first using the form below). In short, the membership fee to become a MCFA member is 40 euros (or 20 euros if you are living in Eastern Europe or unemployed). Please note that current fellows can ask their host institution to pay the membership fees for them (see below).

There are two categories of memberships, associate membership and full membership. If you have finished a fellowship of at least one year duration, or if you have received your doctorate following a Marie Curie fellowship, you can apply for full membership. If you are a current fellow, then your membership status will be "associate with voting rights". Once your fellowship is over, you can upgrade to full membership, provided you fulfil the conditions for it. Otherwise you remain an associate member but without voting rights.

Payability from the institutional allowance of the Marie Curie Fellowship grant

We have inquired the Marie Curie Fellowship Unit at the European Commission and asked whether the fees could be paid from the institutional allowance of the Marie Curie Fellowship grant. In the reply Georges Bingen, the head of the unit confirmed that membership fees are considered eligible costs of a Marie Curie fellowship contract. Here is a copy of these letters:

Attention: For COFUND fellowships

For technical reasons, currently we do not have the possibility to change the list of fellowship programmes (below) to include COFUND fellowships, although these are now welcomed for MCFA membership. If you are a COFUND fellow, please:choose "FP6HFTOK" as programme, and tell us this when sending us the copy of your contract or fellowship agreement.

You can either

  • send a copy of the page(s) of your contract with your host stating
    • your name,
    • the contract number of the contract between the coordinating institution and the European Commission,
    • the name and address of the coordinating institution
    • the name and address of the actual host institution (if not identical, please indicate)
    • the dates of the fellowship
    to our office by fax to +44-705-344-9896 or in scanned form to [email protected].

or

  • ask your scientific supervisor to confirm your eligibility via email (with the same information as above).
